Viewpoint and Church of Yanahuara, Arequipa, Peru

Yanahuara District is a suburb within the city of Arequipa, Peru.

Yanahuara has one of the most prominent churches of regional mestizo art, built in 1750.

The square has a lookout with a picturesque view of Arequipa and its three volcanoes, the Misti being the most famous, the Chachani and Pichu Pichu.

The Mirador de Yanahuara is a set of portals located to one side of the main church in front of the square, it has an impressive view of the city and the Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes.


Pichu Pichu
Pichu Pichu is an inactive eroded volcano in the Andes of Peru, with seven summits; the highest reaches a height of 5,664 metres (18,583 ft).

Misti
Misti is a dormant volcano located in the Andes mountains in southern Peru, rising above Peru's second-largest city, Arequipa.

  • It is a conical volcano with two nested summit craters, the inner one of which contains a volcanic plug or lava dome with active fumaroles.
  • The summit of the volcano lies on the margin of the outer crater and is 5,822 metres (19,101 ft) above sea level.
