Lake Lagunillas, Puno, Peru

Lake Lagunillas is a lake in the Andes of far southeastern Peru.

Lagunillas is at an altitude of about 4,250 m (13,900 ft) and it is located just northwest of Lake Saracocha.

These two lakes are part of the system drained by the Coata River, which flows in a generally easterly direction until entering westernmost Lake Titicaca, about 50 km (30 mi) from Lake Lagunillas as the crow flies.

High Cross (Crucero Alto) is located at 4,528 m (14,855 ft) above sea level, and 14.2 km (8.9 mi) west of Lagunillas High Viewpoint (Mirador Alto Lagunillas).

The Lagunillas High Viewpoint (Mirador Alto Lagunillas) is located at an altitude of 4,444 m (14,580 ft).


Lake Lagunillas
Lagunillas is a high Andean lake or lagoon located in the Peruvian department of Puno, at an altitude of 4174 m (13,694 ft) above sea level.

  • Its dimensions are 18.6 km (11.5 mi) long by 5.8 km (3.6 mi) maximum width and an area of 66 square kilometers (km²) (25.4 square miles) with a maximum depth of 47.6 m (156.1 ft).
  • It has four small islands.
  • The lagoon is surrounded by puna grasslands.
  • 25 species of birds have been reported.
