Laos and Thailand Tour

Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR or LPDR), is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia, surrounded by Burma (or Myanmar) and China to the northwest, Thailand to the west, Cambodia to the south and Vietnam to the east. The city of Vientiane is its capital, the official language is Lao, the official currency is the kip.

Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country in Southeast Asia. Before 1939, it was called the Kingdom of Siam. The latter is bordered to the southwest and northwest by Burma, to the south by Malaysia, to the southeast by Cambodia and to the northeast by Laos. The official language is Thai and the currency is baht. Its capital is Bangkok – it officially changed its name in 2022 to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Khrung Thep being the form used by Thais.

The distinction between Lao and Thai is relatively recent: before the colonial era and the arrival of the French, when they were subjects of the kingdom of Siam, the Thais were designated under the names of Thai-lao for those, oriental, of the basin of the Mekong and Thaï-siam for those, occidental, of the Chao Phraya basin.
