El Sombrero Ecolodge

El Sombrero Ecolodge wants to be a space for visitors to share with nature, learn from ancient Mayan culture and relax with all the comforts possible in the jungle without leaving a negative impact on the environment.

It is located in a 22-hectare Private Nature Reserve on the isthmus east of the entrance to the Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park.

The restaurant is a vernacular architectural construction built with local materials with wide open spaces and a high guano palm roof. The open spaces are designed so that the visitor can feel immersed in nature in the shelter of an open and fresh building. The spaces have an area with tables, a room with board games, a bar, hammocks, and 360-degree views of the jungle and the Yaxha Lagoon. Visitors will be able to observe birds such as toucans, hummingbirds, motmots and many others, as well as howler monkeys and spider monkeys from their tables.

Papaya.
Blandine Gautier presents us with a large papaya produced in the region.

  • Native to tropical America, papaya originates from southern Mexico and Central America.
  • Wild populations of papaya are generally confined to naturally disturbed tropical forests.
  • In the rain forests of southern Mexico, papaya thrives and reproduces quickly in canopy gaps while dying off in the mature closed-canopy forests.
