The Bund is a world-renowned waterfront promenade located along the western bank of the Huangpu River in the Huangpu District of Shanghai.
Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers, it serves as a living museum of the city's colonial history, featuring an impressive collection of 52 iconic buildings constructed in various architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Deco. Historically known as the center of Shanghai's financial and commercial activity in the early 20th century, these grand stone edifices once housed major banks, trading houses, and consulates, earning the area the nickname "The Wall Street of the East."
Today, The Bund remains one of Shanghai’s most iconic landmarks, offering a striking juxtaposition between the historical skyline of the Puxi side and the hyper-modern architecture of the Lujiazui financial district across the water. Visitors flock to the wide, elevated walkway to enjoy panoramic views of the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai Tower, and the World Financial Center, which illuminate the city in a spectacular light show after sunset. Beyond its visual appeal, the area functions as a bustling cultural and tourist hub, home to upscale restaurants, luxury hotels, and high-end boutiques that continue to define the vibrant spirit of modern Shanghai.
