Nandamannya Temple, Nyaung-U, Bagan

The relatively small temple has a square floor plan, four similarly designed sides and a stupa as the crowning glory. Parts of the stucco building decor have been preserved on the outer walls.

The interior with its cross-shaped floor plan contains valuable paintings from the time the temple was built; Depicted include, among other things, the eight main scenes from the life of Buddha, mythical animal creatures from the army of Mara and genre scenes such as “The Exodus of the King” or “Procession of the Women”. There are also four large compositions with a seated Buddha, framed by the silhouette of a typical Pagan temple and surrounded by nats and human figures.
