Shimla district.
Shimla district is one of the twelve districts of the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. Its headquarters is the state capital of Shimla.

  • The climate is very cold and adds the luster to the vegetation. Simla is surrounded by the dense forests of the oaks, Deodar, Pine and the rhododendron. Its forests are very dense and spread all over the region.

For enjoying the wildlife of Shimla, you should visit the national parks which are located in and around Shimla.

  • In the national parks, you can check some special species, which are found in this area. They are Barking deer, Gorals, Musk Deer, Cheer Pheasants etc.

Climate of Shimla.
As Shimla is located in Himalayan ranges, the climate of the city generally is cold.

  • The summer season in Shimla is from April to June, when the temperature is ranges from the maximum of the 28°C to 15°C at the minimum. If you are visiting the city in these months, you should take the light cotton or woolen clothes with you as the summers are mild and pleasant.
  • The winter season in Shimla lasts from November to February. The temperature rises to the 8°C to the maximum and falls to minimum 0°C or minus degrees. The winter season is extremely cold due to the chilly winds from the Himalayas. You can even experience the snowfall in this season during Christmas. If you are visiting city during this season, you should take heavy woolen clothes with you. The city receives the annual average rainfall of about 166 cm.
