Flor da Rosa Museum Center

Among the various components of the cultural project defined for Flor da Rosa, the installation of a Sculpture Center of the National Museum of Ancient Art, resulting from a collaboration protocol with the Institute of Museums and Conservation (IMC, IP) that transfers to the Monument, part of a set of pieces from a National Museum.

This nucleus occupies rooms surrounding the cloister of the extinct Monastery, specially adapted for this purpose, and consists of a set of stone sculptures, with a Marian theme, executed between the 15th and 17th centuries.

If long-term loan acts are common practice among the bodies in charge of safeguarding and public display of national heritage, providing chronological, thematic and narrative complementarities, in Portugal, the Flor da Rosa program has some pioneering spirit. The concept starts from the selection of a set of objects extracted from a single collection - the MNAA Sculpture Collection - and from this pieces were chosen with a specific provenance, the Vilhena collection, all selected from species preserved in reserve, thus destined to the creation of the new museological pole.
