Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Alto Douro, Portugal

Vila Nova de Foz Côa is a municipality in northern Portugal, located in the district of Guarda, within the Douro sub-region. It covers an area of about 398 square kilometers and has a population of just over 6,000 residents. The town itself sits on a plateau shaped by the valleys of the Côa and Douro rivers, making it part of one of the most striking landscapes in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. Its origins trace back to medieval times, with the municipality officially founded in 1299. The area is internationally recognized for the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, which preserves thousands of prehistoric rock engravings dating back to the Upper Paleolithic.
