Rocha da Mina

On the top of a natural schist spur in Alentejo, Portugal was carved a beautiful ritual space. It is believed to be related to the pre-Roman god Endovellicus. There is a sanctuary and a small living area.

This magnificent site is located in Outeiro de São Miguel da Mota, in Terena, in the municipality of Alandroal. It makes part of a local and popular pedestrian route and is worth a visit due to its magnificent and interesting location.

Back in 1995 the site received the first archaeological surveys conducted by Manuel Calado, intervention which identified the residential character of the area, complementary to the specifically ritual area of the sanctuary. In 2011 and 2012 was again the subject of excavations, this time directed by archaeologist Rui Mataloto. In 2013, R. Mataloto and Maria da Conceição Vieira Roque made the last archaeological intervention in the site.
